Advocating Lower Drinking Age

If the United States is considering lowering the legal drinking age from 21 to 18 years of age why is it that the Australian government has now decided to raise the legal drinking age making such a trivial adjustment from 18 years of age to 19?

In The Early show / CBS NEWS interview in the United States groups such as the Amethyst Initiative, a group founded by Dr John McCardell, made up of 130 college presidents have decide to lead and support the movement which would see teenagers who have come of age gain back the right to drink at 18.

The argument lies in the fact that at the age of 21 binge drinking is still a huge dilemma in colleges across America, who have long adopted this system, proving that no matter the age restrictions, if people want to abuse alcohol they are going to do it regardless.

This arguments have left many students left to ponder, if at the age of 18 teenagers are seen as being old enough to go of and served in the military why is it that they aren’t seen as being physically of sound mind to make their own decisions when it comes to drinking. Surely being placed in the firing line at war should make you eligible to take your first drink. Many stating “If I can die for their country, I should be able to have a drink”.
